Painting: Acrylic, Oil, Pastel on Canvas.
This painting was painted in France at the Chateau Orquevaux Art Residency. I would go for a hike through the French countryside, write down words that inspired me from my hike, and start painting. The words are written on the back of the canvas.
The "Chrysalis" Series is an abstraction of nature. Beginning with an automatic drawing in graphite, translucent layers are applied, followed by more mark making & more layers. Various mediums are utilized to build the surface. The resulting smaller paintings are windows looking outward, while the larger paintings are abstract nature-scapes you can walk right into.
In our minds we know what a hike looks like, or a garden, a meadow, or a waterfall. But what do they feel like? That’s what I try to convey in my painting.
This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting on 1.5" thick gallery wrapped canvas done in acrylic, inks, graphite, oil pastel, and oil glazes. The painting is varnished with a satin varnish to protect from dirt and light. The edges of the canvas are light grey, and the painting is wired and ready to hang.
