Born in Paris, France in 1949, Veronique Pruvot grew up in a middle class family in the elegant 9th Arrondissement in the shadow of the old-world covered passages along the grand boulevards and close to the beautiful Palais Garnier Opera House and Galeries Lafayette. Her father was the owner of an advertising agency and her mother worked as a secretary. Veronique had two older sisters. During her childhood, Veronique was exposed to her father's work in advertising and elements of design in the drawings and renderings that were used in his commercial projects. Her father and one of her older sisters loved to draw and inspired Veronique to learn. Veronique was fourteen when she first studied drawing at school. She was initially inspired by traditional Chinese ink drawings on paper. She was fascinated by the transparency of colors and the way they were combined. She also liked collages and the spontaneity of deconstructing images and patterns and reconstructing them in new and innovative ways. French artists such as Henri Matisse and Raoul Duffy have long been sources of great inspiration for Veronique, along with Chinese-French painter Zao Wou-Ki and French Russian painter Nicolas de Stael. Veronique's first subjects were paintings of stained glass showcasing an interplay between light and transparent washes of color. The spontaneous interplay of light and color continues to inspire the artist to this day. As the artist reveals to us in describing her technique, "I don't play with colors, these colors play with me according to chance and their inspiration. I am the paintbrush that animates them and puts them in the scene and in the light." Veronique also considers the talented French poet Arthur Rimbaud as one of her muses. She finds expression in the poetry of colors and she thinks of these expressions and creations as visual poems, each one being a spontaneous expression of her color palette and the play of light. Art is truly food for the soul. As you explore Veronique's artworks, let your mind escape into the vibrancy of her colors, shapes and forms Get lost in these visual poems, and let your heart dance!
