Cléo de Mérode was a French ballet dancer of the Belle Époque. I could not resist painting this beautiful woman. (One of a series of three paintings).. She was born in Paris, the daughter of Austrian landscape artist Carl (also Karl) Freiherr von Merode (1853–1909) In 1896, King Léopold II attended the ballet and saw Mérode dance. The 61-year-old Belgian King became enamoured with the 22-year-old ballet star, and gossip started that she was his latest mistress. The painting contains self-designed jewellery, smooth backgrounds and a lot of relief - touching is allowed! -. The Painting is acrylic/mixed media on “gallery-wrapped **”. canvas, edge painted and ready to hang. Cross laths provide extra sturdiness. ** In this wrapping method, the canvas is stretched around the wooden frame and secured in the back where the hardware (staples, tacks, etc.) is hidden. The sides of the canvas are primed and painted the same as the front, allowing the canvas to be presentable without a frame.

Jim ter Kuile is a professional contemporary artist born in Holland and residing in Münster, Germany. Hybrid art - blending past and present... His artistic mission is to show that history nowadays can be experienced in a new way. The nobles he paint , have a strong historical background, but he interpret them in a different way, with respect for the existing work of art, history and character of the character. He changes small details in their faces, a bit like a Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon. The deliberately simple composition, the bright color contrasts, a lot of relief - touching is allowed! -, self-designed jewelry and smooth backgrounds make the portraits and the portrayed come to life. They are placed in a timeless dimension: the individuals are the point of focus.
