Cliffside Monastery in Amorgos Greece - Hozoviotissa Painting

As an ode to the Grace of Panagia, known as the Virgin Mary, Hozoviotissa Monastery was built by Alexius Comnenus in the 11th-century. The monastery symbolizes a tribute to the Holy Mother. With a blend of nature and man’s creation, the monastery is built right into the cliff and provides panoramic views of the endless blue sea. We stayed on Amorgos island for a week. One morning at 5am, we woke up and went to paint at the monastery. It was difficult to hike up there, carrying so many things in the dark, windy conditions on rocky cliffs. There was a moment as the sun was rising behind us when the light hit the main window and reflected outward.
