"Close to my heart" is part of a new series of paintings where large amounts of gold leaves are incorporated to create volume in the artwork. This particular piece consists of simple color contrast and abstract patterns. The golden butterflies that stand out on the abstract background provide an elegant touch. Furthermore, the background's black and white acrylic shades deliver the feeling of movement to encourage the viewer to travel wherever their imagination takes them. As one gets closer, one will notice that the painting looks like a sculpture as it consists of raised patterns and textures of acrylic paint and golden leaves on the surface. The incorporation of gold leaves in this painting involves a skilled technique called gold leaf gilding. Christos Baloukos was born in Athens, where he currently lives and works. He has studied painting, graphic design and visual Hagiography. In 2019 Christos represented Greece in the International Art exhibition : “Diverse Civilization, Shared Road - international Art Exhibition by Artists for Peace’’ that was part of the “Shanghai Cooperation Organization Bishkek Summit 2019” and had received two (2) awards, by the Government of Kyrgystan & the Bejing Cultural Exchange Center, for his painting “Iviron Monastery”. Some main features of his work is the limited palette 3 plus 2 color, painting with palette knife who creates beautiful texture and of course the fresh watercolors with color depth. He has also participated in exhibitions in UK & Italy and his paintings can be found in museums and private collections in various places around the world. The summerr of 2021 have the honor to be the graphic designer of David Cronenberg new film, “Crimes of the Future” with Viggo Mortensen and Kristen Stewart.
