Circles of varying sizes in all shades of blue and blue-grey bounce on a crisp white background. Unable to be confined they decorate the edges of this fun work. Unexpected mini red dots enliven and add a touch of funky warmth. This work is fitted with D rings and wire for immediate hanging. The pattern continues around all sides so there is no need to frame. On the back you will find my signature, initials, title and year. It is registered on the NRAA (National Registry for Australian artists). The work comes with details of the registration and a Certificate of Authenticity. THE CIRCLES COLLECTION A fascination for circles and a love of retro design led to this collection of works that combine the fun and the funky with colourful pops of colour and pattern. These upbeat paintings are filled with an eye catching proliferation of this most friendly of shapes. I paint on surfaces which allow for the subsequent removal of the paint when dry. It is a slow process of squeezing paint into circles, with each layer taking up to a week to dry. Hundreds are needed in their dried state before being layered and glued onto their support. An individual work in progress resembles an assembly line and takes up an inordinate amount of paint.

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
