This painting was inspired by a back breaking, hypertension inducing commute from Bologna to Milan to Barcelona to Malaga, when I reached Barcelona, I was suffering from dizzy spells, the people at the pharmacy told me I was suffering from very high blood pressure, and that I should do some yoga, relax and do something to reduce the close to heart attack state I was in at the time. When I reached Malaga (my adopted home town at the time) I fell into a deep sleep after which I could not physically lift myself from the bed, the last leg of the journey was 16 instead of 12 hours because of a broken engine in the train in which we were travelling, the Spanish within my compartment were rather peeved with me upon my insistence that Renfe (the train company) provided us with free food and transport upon our arrival to our destinations (possibly due to them being blind patriots to anything being el mejor de espana), so I befriended some Senegalese muslims, when Renfe did supply us with some food, it jamon serrano, jamon york and jamon and queso, not a lot for the muslims with which I was now sharing the strenuous journey, but that was Spain in 2003/4, things have changed there I am sure. I painted this one after my first painting in many months, which was completely different from this one, I felt devoid of kindred spirits, everyone was wealthy with criticism yet showed no support for the guiri (rich northern european foreigner in spanish lingo). I isolated myself by investing in an artistic spirit that drew me away from the main stream, I didn't want to belong to the self branded socialists that was my main social group there, their humour seemed very fascist and prone to the objectification of minorities as the main symbol of their angst, but then I may be overly judgemental.

Morocco
I live in Marrakech, I am an autodidact, I am currently learning arabic and Darija (moroccan arabic). Before Morocco I lived in Spain and taught myself Spanish. I do not believe that a meaningful life should be easy, I like a challenge, learning Darija and running the family 'business' has been my greatest challenge so far. I left the U.K. when I was 24, I have travelled through a bit of Europe and now hopefully Africa. As a child I was diagnosed with dyslexia, which was first noticed when I was to take part in a school play where all the other children in my class had lines to learn, I had a noise to make, later my child psychoanalyst would state that my first language had been a visual language.
