About The Artwork

This work depicts that of female circumcision in Africa. In most African communities the girl child is regarded as a source of wealth to the family through marriage. Therefore there is a rite of passage for all female child that had come of age. Hence circumcision of every girl child of a certain age group. It is a general belief in such communities, that a circumcised female child is less promiscuous than the uncircumcised. It is usually a thing of joy to families in such communities to have their girl child come of age, and the mark it with a lot of pomp and pagentary.
