My family is mid-western and I live in Duluth, Minnesota by Lake Superior. The land of great Summers and Falls but the Winters and Springs give you a lot of time to paint and embrace the cool weather outdoors.
Many of my relatives live around our large country and this gives me opportunities to visit and draw my gesture drawings that I use in my paintings. I find the breaks reboot my creativity and it’s a good excuse to appreciate warmer climates in the Winter.
When I return home I take my notebook of drawings and bring them to life on canvas with acrylic color. I have painted abstract figurative most of my adult life and find no reason to stop finding humans interesting. The way I represent the figures on canvas has changed some but it’s a natural change as we gain experiences.
