About The Artwork

The painting acts as a protest and a incomprehension of the war and the need to search for a new identity resembles mind of an octopus when he is forced to use of visual cues to discriminate between two familiar environments and then take the best route towards some reward. This work, when it was created, sounded for me as a futuristic opera ‘Victory Over The Sun’ by Mikhail Matyushin. The opera used the special language ‘zaum’ - a non-referential phonetic entity with Its own ontology, this allowed the author to endow the sound complexes and verbal combinations in the language, and a listener is to distinguish a meaning of the opera from them. In the perception of the zoom text, the emotional-intuitive principle prevails over the rational. The War? It's real? As a result - a state of uncertainty, incomprehension of what is happening and the restructuring of the usual system and doubts about the values that one believed in. This, in turn, brought back memories of the opera, where in the second act the scene is already taking place in a completely new world - in the so-called "tenth country". All laws of time and space are broken. There is no trace of the past, but new people do not know what to do with the ‘new’ present. The sixth (final) scene is a second climax: ‘a man’ cannot leave the house, since the previous laws of space do not apply. It is important to note that the scenery for the opera was developed by Malevich according to one principle - it seems that the action always takes place inside of a cube. The facets of that cube are not given the opportunity to go beyond it. The picture "In search of a new identity" is recommended to watch and listen together with the opera.

Elena Gordon is a London-based multidisciplinary individual whose creative journey is deeply rooted in her Russian heritage and Jewish background. From a young age, Elena discovered her passion for art, inspired by her late grandfather’s legacy as a photographer. Although they never had the chance to meet, the cameras and books about abstract art and constructivism that her grandmother preserved became Elena’s gateway to exploring the world through photography and art. Guided by her uncle, a still-life artist, Elena embarked on her artistic education early on, studying classical art in an art school. However, her heart was always drawn to abstract art, which ignited her imagination and propelled her towards unconventional artistic expressions. Elena’s educational background is a fusion of landscape and urban architecture, neuromarketing and psychology. She possesses a profound understanding of how the built environment shapes our experiences and the profound impact it has on the human mind. This holistic perspective led Elena to curate and participate in art projects in modern art galleries in Moscow, challenging the boundaries between photography, painting, architecture, and psychology. In her professional journey, Elena has thrived as both an interior designer and an architectural consultant, skillfully blending aesthetics and functionality to create captivating spaces. With a passion for details and an appreciation for the interplay of simplicity and texture, Elena infuses her work with thoughtful compositions that adhere to a meticulous eye for design. Drawing inspiration from theater, ballet, and classical music, Elena embraces these art forms as essential elements that influence her creative process. Her preferred medium is oil painting, primarily using brushes, but she also explores other mediums such as paper and embroidery. Most of Elena’s works are commissioned by private buyers, allowing her to tailor her art and architecture to the unique characteristics of each space and owner. Driven by her belief in the power of the human mind, Elena seamlessly integrates her knowledge of psychology and art in her work. She applies her skills and expertise in architectural and art consultancy, landscape and urban design, and psychological counseling. For Elena, the mind is the cornerstone of all human endeavors, and she is dedicated to helping individuals tap into their depths of creativity and subconscious through art therapy.
