About The Artwork

Whenever I look into the restless void of the sea, I recall one of my beloved paintings "Monch am Meer" by Caspar David Friedrich. The figure of the monk, by some thought to represent Friedrich himself, is constantly intriguing me after all these years when I saw his outstanding artwork for the first time. In my seascape the shore is empty in physical terms, however there is an invisible presence coming out from my reflection on Friedrich's silhouette. What thoughts, what desires, what joys and sorrows did he entrust to this cold blackness? Did he enjoy his solitude at this very moment? Did he feel grateful for being a part of this divine nature or maybe he felt weak and despaired, seeking for some comfort? I am still wondering and still amazed that a hand of an artist could create such a beauty like 'Monk by the Sea'. The painting comes to you varnished and framed. I would feel very honored if you choose my art for your walls. Warmest wishes Natalie

I am a literary scholar by education, however I have been interested in making art for many years. I started my adventure with oil painting in 2020 as a self-taught artist deeply inspired by evening skies, moonlight, restless seas and Scandinavian landscapes. I love creating moods and capturing impressions, moments and memories on canvas. I often apply alla prima technique, but I feel best working on more time-consuming projects, on larger canvases, building depth, layer upon layer. My works are quite minimalistic – usually a hazy composition is enriched only by a bright spot of light or by a clearly marked line of water. I feel most inspired when I am close to nature, appreciating the beauty of fleeting moments.
