About The Artwork

Characteristically unframed (authenticity showing the canvas edges), this painting exemplifies the ground-breaking style of POP Art as it is applied to a slice of Americana, that of a cowboy's saddle. It is a singularly iconic and powerful image denoting a rural but romantic lifestyle once known as the wild west. The image floats independently as if it is in an atmosphere of it's own, the colors setting the emotional tone. I thought to capture this functional object in a way to allow its shape to not be overwhelmed by decoration that is often applied to the leather surfaces. By painting the saddle, I was paying, somewhat, an homage to an era that occupies a colorful space in American history.
