ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Well, we are in the middle of who knows what phase of this pandemic, immense social & political unrest, and navigating everchanging work situations & personal relationships. We are stressed. In more than one way, we are being stretched past limits we didn't even know we had. Good job at keeping on keeping on! This afternoon, my little family unit took a stress detour. We went back road driving, had a car picnic, and talked to each other- a lot. It was beautiful and distracting in the best way. We let our hearts and minds rest. Toby Penney is a southern artist working in paint, photography, printmaking & multiple sculpture media. Penney creates work accepting, even glorifying simple objects & fleeting moments. She is also the founder of Roaming Studio, offering art classes, workshops, & artist residencies. Toby enjoys developing relationships with other creative people. She exhibits internationally and with several galleries in the U.S.. Recent exhibitions include PALIMPSEST at Penny Contemporary in Tasmania & BODIES at Mulbury Gallery in Melbourne, Australia. EVOLUTION OF MEMORY is her solo exhbit, currently on view at Tennessee Wesleyan University. Toby has also been a two time recipient of the Denis Diderot AIR Grant with corresponding fellowships to Chateau Orquevaux Artist Residency. Her work has been on the cover of Professional Artist Magazine and Hellbent Magazine and has been included in numerious other publications.
