About Toby Penney

Toby Penney is a southern artist working in paint, photography, printmaking & multiple sculpture media. Penney creates work accepting, even glorifying simple objects & fleeting moments.
She is also the founder of Roaming Studio, offering art classes, workshops,  & artist residencies.
Toby enjoys developing relationships with other creative people. She exhibits internationally and with several galleries in the U.S.. Recent exhibitions include PALIMPSEST at Penny Contemporary in Tasmania & BODIES at Mulbury Gallery in Melbourne, Australia. EVOLUTION OF MEMORY is her solo exhbit, currently on view at Tennessee Wesleyan University.
Toby has also been a two time recipient of the Denis Diderot AIR Grant with corresponding fellowships to Chateau Orquevaux Artist Residency. Her work has been on the cover of Professional Artist Magazine and Hellbent Magazine and has been included in numerious other publications.
She holds a sculpture degree from Middle Tennessee State University

Scheduled for 2020:
***UPDATE*** Due to the Covid 19 pandemic 2020 seems to be on hold and hopefully not CANCELED. I willl update as often as possible with changing events.

January brings a solo exhibit at the Grand Gallery, Frankfort, Kentucky. This will be a show of large scale, mixed media paintings.

In March, my photo based image, 'Anointed', will be exhibited with Loose Art in Rome, Italy.

Art based travels to Greece & Eastern Europe.

During November & December, one of my large scale woodblock prints will be exhibited with the Frankfort Arts Alliance/ BIG Ink Prints show at the Grand Theater Gallery in Frankfort, Kentucky.

2019 events included:

Toby was a guest artist at Macbeth Creative Studios in Melbourne, Australia for the Fall. While there the a series based on memory and space was produced and spurred new work to be created upon return to the States.

August 2019 Toby was the featured artist at Robert Kent Galleries in Atlanta, Georgia.

September 2019 was a big month in printmaking. Toby participated in a print session for her piece 'Evolving Spirit ' at Hatch Show Prints in Nashville, Tennessee

Publications featuring the work of Toby Penney in the 2019 season include: Porridge Magazine, Write Bitch Write, We Are Zanna, The State Journal

Toby has also produced multiple workshops, organized two city wide open studio events, facilitated the organization of the Frankfort Arts Alliance and has established Otrera Arts, an arts sponsorship nonprofit.
