One of 3 canvasses Paul created in response to many stays on Tiree in the Inner Hebrides. Living close to, windsurfing and Kitesurfing in, the wonder of the wondeful sand flats and ever changing wind directions surf conditions and re-appearing rockpools and kelp stems on Crossapol, the bay left a lasting impression. 'Crossapol 2' interprets the rockpools and meltonian skies with the kelp creating a two tone shimmer over the gleaming rocks. Viewing the painting takes you to an expansive sand flats, reflections and the lull of gentle waves creeping onto sand and retreating. Washes of thin oil were used to give a hazy feel over the rocks, and subtle blends of oil to create the skies gave that wonderful luminous quality over the bay.

United Kingdom
Artist Paul Hillary was born in Carlisle, Cumbria, educated in Cumbria before studying Graphic design at Kingston University where he attained an Honours degree. Paul has always been drawn to the moods and atmospheres created by the elements on land and sea and the effect it has on colours. He has had numerous exhibitions in the home counties and beyond. Over recent years the acylics, oils and sketches have been inspired by stays on islands around the United Kingdom including the Channel Islands and the Hebrides in Scotland. His sketches are largely done on location and canvasses in his studio in Welwyn Garden City. Paul is constantly exploring techniques, colourways and texture in his art and photography, capturing abstract images of old stressed skips, textures in nature and abstract colour combinations in what he sees. Themes from these observations are often translated onto his artworks in an abstract or semi-abstract way. He is currently working towards exhibitions of his work around London and the English Lake District in his home county of Cumbria, and has various artworks on show in Hertfordshire and Cumbria His work is bought in UK and USA mainly, with sales to europe becoming more frequent .
