Crossroads Painting

Lutfiyah Nanhuck is a visual artist born and based in Mauritius known for her captivating dreamscapes. From a young age, Lutfiyah's creative spirit led her to explore various artistic activities, but it was through painting that she discovered her true passion. Drawn to the fluidity of the medium, particularly the vibrancy, depth of color, and blendability of oil paint, Lutfiyah found a means to express her innermost emotions and intuition on canvas. Lutfiyah studied languages and art in secondary school where she realized that the conventional academic approach to the arts did not fulfill her artistic aspirations. She decided to forge her own path, exploring her creativity in her own way while pursuing her education in a different field. In 2018, she graduated from the University of Mauritius with a degree of Bachelor of Laws with Honours. Coming from a lush island, Lutfiyah is inherently drawn to the nature of her surroundings and is easily impressionable to its ever changing temperament. She draws inspiration from the vivid colours constantly present around her and attempts to capture the profound interplay between her state of being and the vibrant world around her. Lutfiyah's artwork primarily focuses on abstract landscapes, cloudscapes, and seascapes. Her artistic style is characterized by a harmonious blend of movement, blurred lines, and strong contrasts. The resulting pieces evoke a sense of otherworldliness, transporting viewers into ethereal realms that reflect the artist's mind and emotions. Colour plays a vital role in Lutfiyah's work, serving as a language that transcends the spoken through which she communicates her thoughts and feelings. With a spontaneous and intuitive approach, she selects a wide range of colors, while frequently incorporating a touch of blue—an element that brings her a profound sense of comfort and tranquility. Lutfiyah's brushstrokes are her words, and she orchestrates them with finesse. By pairing soft blends with sharp edges, she aims to evoke an ethereal quality, where reality merges with the intangible. Through these expressive brushstrokes, she invites viewers to embark on an introspective journey, where emotions intertwine with visual narratives.
