My favourite art period is the Expressionism. Like an expressionist I seek to convey the inner landscapes of myself by the means of portraits. So I consider myself an expressionistic portrait painter. I don't have the patience or skill to paint realistically, so I don't. Luckily I'm not interested in reality in the picturesque sense. I paint figuratively, mostly portraits. I strive to give my characters a cinematic touch either through colours, shadows or content. I actively dislike realism because to produce a realistic work of art it's mostly a question of technique, not artistry. By reproducing the world you don't put your personal spin to it, I think, which I consider a shame. Likewise, I actively dislike the non figurative, abstract paintings of the likes of Pollock. Their sort of paintings are pure emotion and mood. With pure abstract Expressionism what's conveyed through the picturesque is most likely very distorted; too distant for people to receive it's message.
