Da Bambino is part of the unmounted canvas body of works, one of the pieces of my research for instinctual abstract expressionism. Working on pure canvas allows strong – almost violent – gestures with different tools, which channel the archetypal energy directly from my body to the medium.

Jacopo Della Ragione was born in Florence in 1976. He attended the course in Medieval Studies at the Università Statale in Milan and simultaneously took a course in Graphic Design and Printing Technologies at the Rizzoli Institute for Graphic Arts. In June 2001, he moved to Beijing, where he still lives and works. He is an associate professor at Yantai University, International Art Director of Dodo Art Museum, and a guest artist at the Sichuan Fine Art Institute and Beihang University. In 2019, he presented his first representative works of his artistic language at the First Yuanmingyuan Culture and Art Festival. His artistic language is gestural, where elements interact in a balance, reflecting inner dialogue and external contradictions. Despite the late decision to accept himself as a full-time artist, he quickly gained significant recognition, both for his artworks and for his active contribution to the promotion and growth of contemporary art. He is engaged in collaborations with Culture Institutes and Embassies in Beijing to create activities and events aimed at promoting contemporary art. In 2020, he started a pro-bono project of site-specific installations in the heart of Beijing. It involves a showcase on a historic street where, with the collaboration of local authorities, he invites artists to create installations that establish a dialogue between contemporary art and the reality of local urban life.
