Painting, acrylic on Wood

There was an article in The NY Times ages ago about a woman trying to escape the conflict in Darfur. It personalized the mass numbers of death we read about and turn the pages on. A Mother and her four children made the long journey across the desert toward a refugee camp. Along the way, one of the children became to weak to continue the path to aid. To save the other children, the Mother had to leave the ailing child to die alone under a tree. I am a mother of three. The horrowing choice to leave your dying child was too much for me to bare. So I painted the pain. The gold sky represents all of the raw resources inaccessible to the people of African Countries. The circles represent all of the empty bellies of children struggle as a result of war. Despite the dark story, this painting is suppose to be an inspiration of the possibility of hope and peace. Out of darkness there is light.
