About The Artwork

The hands that were once bare now begin to speak. As the light plays across inquisitive fingers slowly counting each knuckle and crease, the mind behind them pores over hard-won lessons. This young man who first donned the well-worn gloves now finds guidance in his own palms, reading there the messages of his first days' toil. Though his skin yet bears no scars, within his hands reside memories not his own - the accumulated knowledge of struggles past, held in trust to benefit the struggles yet to come. Each numerical triumph reveals the growth unseen, as understanding dawns behind curious eyes what experience alone can show. Now he learns that within these tools which earned him sweat lies more than simple anatomy: a library of life's textures, should he care to read what daily duties have inscribed. As shadows lengthen and the count is done, I see a man reflecting on a boy's beginnings, and glimpse in his face a future writ clearer by each challenge bravely borne.

Jesutofunmi Ogidan is a visual artist born in Ilesa, Osun State. He is a multidisciplinary Visual artist who has always been curious to ask questions that are deemed uncomfortable in his generation. He holds a Bachelor's in Marine Science and Technology from the Federal University of Technology Akure. Jesutofunmi attempts to capture the plight of millennials in a fast-moving subjective world as it relates to history/historical events/phenomena repeating itself as though in a cycle. He expresses his art predominantly with Acrylics and oil paints, deliberately reflecting specific experiences and emotions. With his art, he attempts to relate the repetitive nature of human experiences to historical cycles and paint a glimmer of hope.
