About The Artwork

This impressionistic acrylic painting was created using the wet on wet technique, Alla Prima, following the tradition of artists such as, Gauguin and Monet. This imaginative artwork is loosely based on Alberta, in particular High River, Canada. The natural world plays an important role in my life, as I am inspired by nature to create beautiful artwork. This artwork has a wooden fishing cabin, in which one can have total seclusion and relaxation. There is a deep valley covered in drifts of snow and an immense mountain in the background towering over the lower plains. The clouds are slate-grey and ominous, a snowstorm with high winds is sweeping across the distant mountain. This painting is currently unframed, the cost of framing is included in the price. The collector has the option of choosing the style of colour of the frame, please contact me when purchasing to indicate what type of frame you would prefer. Deep Valley with Snow Cabin is signed on the front with my signature FLS and the date when it was created.

I studied English Literature BA (Hons) at university and I went on to do a Creative Writing course with the Open University. This led me to becoming a writer of children’s books, in particular I enjoy creating picture books. Gradually the picture became my focus and I started to create an Illustrator’s portfolio. The subject matter I work with varies from representing shape and form to intricate details. I am fascinated with nature and its’ various forms, whether it be wild animals, the wilderness, the weather or our pets. These themes compel me to create art. I have a love and deep respect for nature in all its forms, I hope these feelings permeate into the drawings via my brush or pencil. Illustrators such as Axel Scheffler, Alexis Deacon and writers such as Thoreau, Wordsworth, William Blake and George MacDonald inspire my artwork.
