Defrag (Undone) Painting

Autobiographical memories are not accurate. They are creative constructions shaped by our biases and subjectivities. Our memories are a jumble of preconceptions and deep ruts of repetition from which thoughts that are not necessarily true are subjectively selected. As new pieces of knowledge are added everything shifts, we rewrite again, and the actuality is slightly, partially, or completely obscured. These stories we retell ourselves - the furrows we dig into the layers of our memory, the ephemeral recollections, the still-vivid smell and taste and feel of certain past experiences - these layers of narrative are what make us up. They are the habits of thought that can lead us to be who we believe we are. Defrag is about the shifting and rewriting of ourselves.
