Some years ago I found an old Art catalogue on a flea market in florence, Italy and I was inspired by the old typography and the pretty letterpress on the büttenpapier. It made me thinking of the place I was and the personal situation I was in, at that time. What will happen, where will I be in the next time? The paper was talking to me in a secret language although it was printed in german. But what was there between the lines ...? It feels like a ... phantom message, showing me what could be. Meanwhile I reached another destination but the journey isn´t done ... Tell me, what is your destination? This work is a part of the PHANTOM series, which I done in 2011. It was inspired by my feelings and doubts at this time in Italy. It was doubtful but never desperate. There is and was always light and hope. Don´t forget. I love to work on "material with its on history" and sometimes I find a kind of that and when it fits to me and my ideas it could be a good relationship between me and my art and the material I work on. Here I worked with acrylic, ink, pencil, graphite and madmade stamps to bring on the colour and to let the colour "live" on that paper ...

Germany
Thomas Atzenbeck is a German artist living and working in Cologne, Germany. He went to school at the School of Art and Design in Fachhochschule Aachen, Germany. He also worked for several years as a Type Painter. Currently he’s influenced by artists such as Antoni Tapíes, Cy Twombly, Sigmar Polke, Joseph Beuys, Martin Kippenberger, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol. All these artists have had a special meaning to him at some point in his life. He started drawing and painting as a kid around the age of 4 or 5 and hasn’t stopped since. Throughout the last few years, he’s been focusing less on painting and getting more into drawing and printing, in addition to experimenting with different art forms. He’s always searching for new ways to create art. If you ask an artist what the meaning of their art is, they’ll give you an array of different answers and sometimes even none. Thomas’ art varies in meaning depending on his current mindset, his feelings on politics and whatever thoughts pop into his mind. It can range from satirical to bitter, and even comical depending on his current view on the world. His art is a reflection of his frustration with the state of affairs in the world and hopes it’s not too late for all of us. Thomas’ art is a method to keep his mind together and a way to bring us all together and forget our frustrations with the direction of humanity. At the moment, Thomas is in and around Germany and Europe doing exhibitions and events. In the future, he aspires to put his art on tour and do more collaborations with other artists worldwide and in an America.
