About The Artwork
This work is the centerpiece of the Devil City exhibition at the Orlando Museum of art for which it was named after. As an Artist that managed to be groomed from folk art to fine art I began and still thrive in the American Bar culture. It is in the witching hour of the U.S. that you can get a pulse of how restless American think and feel. I was drinking with strangers when we began to talk about Jasper Johns and art throughout history and time. Devil City is patch work of American flags that attempts to tell the story of Capitalism with the crude honesty of cave drawings. I create images and then cover them with instances of color and contours then use a would chisel to relief the images un the landslide of colors. I used wood panel so that I could be brutal and more violent with my painting. Devil City is visually stunning and engaging.
