Devil's Trumpet Painting

There are days in all our lives when we're just going about the motions. There are times in our lives when those days seem particularly bleak. I recall one such day, I was out walking the dogs and found no "sugar" in life... no sweetness... then I came upon this plant with huge white flowers, struggling to make a home between the slabs of concrete that cemented the sidewalk and just thought to myself, "Wow! This MUST be a sign from God to keep my chin up! You can make it through anything!" Took a pic on my phone and uploaded it to my social media, exalting this epiphany and raging on about how even in the darkest of times the Universe sheds some hope... and then the comments started pouring in... "Oh Man! That's not a sign from Jesus! It's called the Devil's Trumpet!" So I did some research and yeah, it is one of the most toxic plants in the neighborhood. Like Shamans won't even touch it. And thus, twas inspired to depict the beauty of something seemingly so innocuous as a flower, which in fact could be very harmful, and the sort of distance that depression and mental illness instills (Hence, the Underwater/Scuba/Astronaut Figure). I wanted the audience to wonder why the figure wasn't ecstatic about such a pretty and simple thing as a flower. I wanted them to question those things in their lives that sometimes look good on paper, but don't always deliver as promised. Original Artwork is actually my mantle piece and one of the few paintings I freely display. I like it and it beats a depiction of me sitting on a leather chair smoking a pipe.
