About The Artwork
I picked up an older book that was published in the 1950's. It was the story of the almost impossible adversity he faced as a convict sentenced to the infamous French prison in French Guiana. This book, ''The Dry Guillotine'' , by Rene Belbonet, influenced me to do this painting. Incidentally a similar book came out many years, ''Papillon'', by Henri Charre, who also served time in French Guiana, although he later admitted that he had falsified many of his adventures that took place. Rene Belbonet's were real.
