About The Artwork

The black shape is divided in two: one more transparent than the other. This piece denotes the duality we live in: good and evil, up and down, right and wrong. My goal is to use Art to tell about the process one goes through while striving to find Unity and Oneness. The split black shape is bracketed on top and in the bottom (a duality, right there!) but, at the same time, this bracket keeps both sides of the black shape together, as if they were One. Implicit in this idea is that within duality one can find a path to Unity.

I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and "was discovered" by Art when living in Israel in the 60's. At that time I was interested in literature and music and majored in English and Spanish at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Ten years later, after studying art and giving it my total devotion, I realized that Art had taken center stage in my life. Despite painting since the late 60's, I am still discovering new territories, exploring new means of expression, finding out aspects of myself as they are reflected in my daily work/search. I paint in oils and Encaustics and teach classes in these two mediums at my studio in North Scottsdale, AZ. I am constantly in search of new means of expression to convey a mood, a feeling or a spiritual positioning in my Art. For the past few years I worked on my "Zen" Series, which aims at conveying a feeling of depth in simplicity. When I felt that the goal had been achieved in the paintings shown here, I moved to my current series, "Transitions", which explores the influences of Abstract Expressionism. I am an avid reader and enjoy reading literature in Portuguese, Spanish, Hebrew, French, Italian, English. Lately my interests veer toward spirituality and self improvement.
