About The Artwork

The genesis of my painting emanates from a poignant encounter etched into memory during my journey through the weaving villages of Odisha, India. In the heart of this rustic landscape, I met a venerable woman, a weaver whose eyes held the wisdom of years gone by. She proudly unraveled a tale interwoven with threads of affection and endearment. The sari she exhibited, gifted by a groom who envisioned her as a doe with captivating eyes, transcended mere fabric. It encapsulated a love story, a sentiment that transcended time. The sari's pallu, adorned with the delicate silhouette of a deer, resonated with unspoken emotions—a testimony to the groom's perception of her grace and beauty. This encounter, rich in subtlety and romanticism, has inspired me to encapsulate not just a moment, but the very essence of human connection, through my artistry.

I am a self-taught artist who has done the eight levels of the Royal Drawing Society of London at the school level. From childhood, I was fascinated by the play of colours in nature, and I have come to love all its moods and find it an infinite source of happiness. I was fortunate enough to have travelled all across the sub Himalayan region, and forest areas and later on visited the coastal areas of my country as well as those of Australia. As a homemaker, I spent my life in isolated forested areas where my husband worked as a coal mining engineer. Unable to pursue my education in Fine Arts, I tried the difficult frustrating and lengthy process of learning from books and mostly these were the series of books written by Walter Foster. I could only pursue it as a hobby, till the Covid pandemic scare came a couple of years ago, as we were all forced to be cooped up in isolation I returned to my favourite hobby painting and I started putting in six hours daily. I joined the Serb group of Artist Phil Davis and followed the daily prompts to submit a painting and made efforts to project the prompt as landscapes For example the title “treat” was translated into a desert landscape with blooming flowers as “treat for the eyes of the beholder. My inspiration to paint comes from 1. My love for Nature, 2. While being cooped up during the pandemic was the only way to explore and relive moments spent with family. 3. It has garnered a great deal of self-respect as at 75 years of age I can contribute to society. 4. Through sales I may be able to generate enough income to help the needy.
