ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I have been interested in essential reality, awareness, light theory and physics since the 1970's. In 1980 I had a one person show of my figure drawings in which I displayed light abstracted from and yet integral to the human form. These interests found a wonderful field in Yosemite where the elements of rock, sky, water, and light are so dramatically contrasted. In this piece as graphically as possible I display how my perception of them creates the light displayed in this work.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
