Don't Fear The Reaper Painting

My paintings are inspired by experiences of "seeing" what I feel, in mental visions that speak in colour and form about what I'm experiencing. Their meanings are often mysterious to me at the time, becoming clearer in hindsight. This particular painting comes from a place of feeling able to fly above pain and anxiety, surrendering gracefully to inevitable change and allowing whatever it is in me that has to die, to die in peace. This piece is done on a lovely thick piece of wood, in bright acrylic paints. This medium offered the vividness and intensity of colour that matched my inner vision for this image. My process for paintings such as this one is spontaneous and improvisational. I didn't sketch anything out beforehand and I didn't know what I was going to paint until I was painting it. This is my favourite approach for conveying something ethereal and symbolic like this.
