About The Artwork

* Subject: expansion of the Ottoman Empire * Materials used: watercolor and gold foil * Paper: sheet of an old book with Arabic letters * Framed in the new frame with bordeaux passepartout and two layers of glass The Eastern hemisphere is highlighting the Middle East and adjacent regions at the times when the Ottoman armies had surged out of Turkey to form a great empire. Osman Ghazi founded, Murad I improved the state and the Sultan Mehmed II "The Conqueror" transformed it into an Empire. Including allegorical representation of the continents, this map features some interesting cartography that is a prominent land bridge suggested a connection between North America and Asia on earlier maps. The map illustrates the world as it would be seen from space. This painting is original full hand colored piece for any collection of the old world maps.
