Dram Is On - 5 First of all I am a human being taken birth in this beautiful earth and brought up in the society of civilised humans. Like everyone I also started my journey through mimicking the nature by doing naturalistic and realistic artworks. In these artworks the human figure was much more dominant gradually through the evolution of my mind set and philosophy my paintings started acquiring a simple form. I am trying to simplify the various emotions of the human heart through my artworks. Now a days it has my own game. The lines and the colours seems to be my own. I am trying to make my own signature on my paintings without depending upon the conventional human figure. I have a mission to fulfil named “THE DARK QUEST”. In this mission I have tried to execute the phenomenal evil deeds that are going on in the midst of nature. This painting is involved to “DRAMA IS ON”. Our nature is rolling out through a stage of a drama. Human beings are a part of this nature that is why they too are fond of drama. Human beings always want something new something new to discover. Vincent, Klee, Picasso and Rabindra nath Tagor are my inspirations. I have worked with acrylic for many years in the past, that is it is my favourite medium to paint with.

India
I am Gautam Paul I was born in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, India. From my childhood, I loved to write poetry, draw, paint and sing. But my parents had huge objection to such work. They did not want me to be involved in such work, because of their financial issues at that time. Later, I got admitted to the Government college of art & craft in Calcutta by some force and from there I passed in 1990 with Bachelor of visual arts. I wanted to be a creative director of an add agency, so I joined a company in advertisement industry. But after the death of my father in 1997 my mental condition deteriorated and against my will I was forced to take the job of treasurer in a Govt (B.ed) college. I then became depressed about life and ran around trying to understand people's lives but could not understand the mind. My father's death threw me into the abyss. I read books, especially Eastern and Western philosophies, from my college library and I looked for answers to many questions about life in that library. Once I protested against the unethical behavior of the principal of the college but he ignored and insulted me and then I vowed to myself to unmask such educated people anyway, and chose painting as my tool. All my early paintings were developed in the protest painting style. I named my mission "The Dak Quest". The main purpose of these paintings was to highlight the dark aspects of society. Gradually, life has changed, the perception of life has also changed, I saw that this is not just nature or society with darkness, here both light and darkness have an equally crucial role. I began to see this world in a new perspective. Image to me is like an unknown dream, just as dreams are not fixed in advance, images should not be fixed in advance I believe and this is normal. The artist translates the flow of time in his earthly life into line and color as spontaneously as the flow of a river. But our lives are uncertain, I don't know what will happen tomorrow, so abstract painting always carries the signature of uncertainty. I have asked myself a lot of questions about why I should paint abstractly. Later I realized that only in the abstract painting with honesty can the primal energy of the artist's life be expressed or the meaning can be maintained. I will find the truth of my uncertain life in my painting without betraying my conscience.Abstract painting to me is a translation of the present uncertain life.
