About The Artwork

This is an artwork from the series 'Dreamscape Creatures' that started in 2023 and continues to be explored in 2024. These imaginary creatures are a hybrid species that combine floral elements with animal and mineral elements. Creatures of my imagination that live in a utopian state of my inner paradise, the place where only beauty and innocence is prevailing. The process of creating them is intuitive and spontaneous. They seem to appear before my eyes as I allow the process to unfold. The medium used is soft pastels, preferably Unison soft pastels, usually on handmade bamboo paper of 200 gr. or watercolour paper. I love soft pastels as they allow me to move on with the process in a fast pace, which is important for the directness of the conceptual expression of the unrevealing creatures. The artwork is available without any hanging hardware included. It has a blank border area around the edges.

Eli Tsonaki (Athens, 1980) is a greek artist based between Athens and the island of Paros. In 2023 she presented the series 'Dreamscape Creatures', a body of work depicting fantasy creatures of an imaginary world, that embody a hybrid of animal - floral - mineral entities. Through vivid colours and organic forms, unknown creatures occur, where the surrounding environment is non material, only a spectrum of colours. Eli's way of working is intuitive and spontaneous, allowing the creatures to be freely expressed and created, as if their image is coming from a distant memory or a place of dreams.
