ABOUT THE ARTWORK
his painting is the first time I melded my portrait painting techniques with the energetic visual style of abstract expressionist art. The figurative drawings made famous during the neo-expressionist movement were a huge inspiration to me. But search ‘female neo-expressionists’ and you get pictures of women, yet very few mentions of female painters. Dress Code is my little personal response to that. I wanted my work to exude femininity. To be sensual yet shy, chaotic yet confident.
