The work is part of three in a series informed through the ritual of walking the coastline visually collecting a series of sensorial notations as one moves silently through the atmospheric landscape. The water based mediums used on paper parallel the the water and its absorption into the edge of land, with its transparency and shifting edges.

Wendy Stokes has consistently worked across painting, drawing and printmaking disciplines for the last 4 decades primarily focusing on medium to large scale painting and work on paper. She has been awarded a MFA through UNSW Art and Design, Sydney and holds a Graduate Diploma Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney, Australia; having her work acquired in the National Gallery Australia; AGNSW and Tamworth,Grafton,Coffs Harbour,Port Macquarie Glasshouse, Gosford, Bathurst and Warrnambool Regional Galleries. Wendy was a recipient of a research residency through UNSW at Cite International des Arts,Paris in 2014. Her work has been selected in The Glover Prize,The Fleurieu Prize, The Alice Prize,The Dobell Drawing prize and the JADA drawing award. Stokes art practice is informed by her familiar coastal environment and daily interaction within it through the ritual practice of walking.Such an integral and sincere relationship to this landscape provides a platform for ideas to be explored through a blend of emotional and lived cartography. Avoiding a localized site, the artist pulls from a collective memory, targeting the felt vibrations of a journey. The works becomes a compilation of parallel landscapes crossing geographical boundaries both past and present; manipulating a register of experiences and histories of time spent, where memories, lost and reconfigured become fragments, glimpses fractured by time.
