About The Artwork

Some of my work is inspired by other Art from various arena's which might immediately pique the interest of some viewers. Music plays a big part in inspiring mood and the nature of my expressive gestures, similarly film and similar forms of distraction and entertainment. I think these things can subliminally take a hold and jump through in an artist's work, often as a giant undertone, invisible inspiration residing somewhere in what one may call the spirit or the soul. This painting, from 2018 has a distinct feeling of explosive, fast movement, highly expressive and gestural, exuding colour and speed, an impression, indeed some immersion in water, and some meteoric or other Stellar activity or event which by nature can serve as a reminder of how small and insignificant one may be in comparison to the universe or even our planet when you consider the overall scale of life and energy around us, perhaps infinitely and ubiquitous, in antithesis to the transient nature of our mortality. As always to this date, I make a tangible effort to include colour from across the whole electro-magnetic spectrum or the rainbow. In this case it might not be instantaneously recognisable but when you analyse the painting there are colours from each simplified categorisation of the rainbow from Red to Violet, the overall background colour probably being tones of yellow, in keeping with the sun as we see it from Earth. I opted to frame this painting with a distressed 19th century finely detailed composition frame, an item I came across in a search for a frame that compliments the piece as a juxtaposition, an antithesis of old and new, a transition from traditional painting techniques to a contemporary approach, symbolising respect and honour of artistic traditions past, whilst hunger, vigour, and Thrive for The New, The Contemporary, The Extemporaneous...
