Dublin Zoo 6 Painting

In traveling the U.S. and beyond, I’ve been drawn to paint zoo habitats, places that humans have designed for animals. I’m intrigued by what metaphorical associations can be conceived by how we create theatrical spaces for animals to live in. One such association focuses on displacement, a consequence seen globally when we as humans dominate the earth to satisfy our own needs above all. The titles of the works, borrowing from the name of the zoos depicted, reinforce this idea by highlighting how animals have been removed from their natural habitat.
