About The Artwork

This art performance is inspired by the narrativeness of the painting. Portraying fictional version of Julia Warhola, Andy Warhols mother in a dramatic scene with a hint of humor. Visit YOU TUBE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLp05Qi4EXg The painting prompts very subtle connotations and the rhetoric of a 'first glance' associations between a mass produced object, an art work and an artist, is reused in a context which borders to art criticism. We can find a peculiar resemblance to Pop Art which lies in delicately sculpted coolness and high self esteem. It creates an underground appeal when juxtaposing the woman in a high fashion outfit, inspired by Alexander McQueen's 2008 collection 'La Dame Bleue' with eating soup from a can. The image is powerful in its narrative. 'Environment' could be easily transformed into performance art. Fashionably dressed woman, sitting gracefully in a white and pristine gallery eating red tomato soup directly from a can. Not bothered by the visitors, just eating away. Slightly vulgar and definitely rebellious.

Irina Milijić, born in 1980, lives and works in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She obtained her Master's degree in Textile and fashion design and works in various fields of fashion and art. She is an independent fashion designer with her own brand NEON RABBIT. Her fashion creations are one-offs based on individualism with casual appeal of "alternative". She utilizes subcultural tendencies and intersects them with a peculiar 21st century way of life and tech. Irina is best known through her work in fashion, but she works with a wider range of media. As a freelance artist she is a fashion writer and co-founder of ATELIER DRAGONFLY, (www.atelierdragonfly.com) fashion and photography magazine and she fuses fashion, textile and art. Her first art installations were exploring the vastness of city space with large size textile installations within the cities of Slovenia. Fashion shows were transformed into art performances focusing on contemporary issues of textile waist and the new possibilities of upcycling. Her official journey as a painter started with a first solo painting exhibition for her Master’s degree many years ago…and it continues.
