Painting, Watercolor on Paper

Ships in a Crate
This watercolor is framed with a 3" mat. "EXIT ONLY" is one of the first in my "Underground" series of NYC subway images, done in a non-traditional watercolor technique on Arches archival 100% cotton rag. I wanted to paint urban landscape, but something more unusual than buildings and bridges. Then I realized: What is more New York than the subway? In the Underground series I try to simplify station architecture into ragged shapes of light and dark. "Exit Only" is one of the few to include the sunlight at the top of the stairs. Joan Iaconetti’s award-winning watercolors have had several solo exhibits in New York City. Her “Underground” series was featured in the October 2015 issue of Watercolor Artist Magazine. https://tinyurl.com/y964fop4 Gallery . . www.joaniaconetti.com Classes . .www.watercolor.joanweb.com
