About The Artwork
This artwork, my 48th in a dedicated series loosely based on the fortification designs of the 17/18C French Maréchal Vauban, was created with acrylic and spray paints on canvas. This abstract subject continues my interest in the Vauban theme… with the additional influence of some work of the Russian artiste Liubov Popova. My treatment here is with acrylic and spray paints… the overall colour palette is muted, but the subtle masked overlays of shades and tints of grey, blue, indigo, white and black seen more closely in the detail shots, as well as one taken during progress in my studio, will provide more information.

Abstract artist... stock photographer... writer... plant-based... fixie-cyclist... minimalist... and easy going, I studied Interior Design at art college in the 1960s, then worked in the TV and film industry for more than a decade, before turning to photography full-time. Later I published and edited specialist photographic magazines on darkroom techniques for several years and continue to supply digital images to the world's largest photo agency from my current location here in France. However, in a hard working retirement I spend much more time and energy as an abstract fine artist working with all media from old-fashioned paper, pencil and paint to creative collage and canvas.
