Anisa grew up in India amidst a rich oral culture, listening to the most amazing stories as a little girl. Wide eyed she would get lost in this world of tigers and elephants, sages and rain gods and mango trees. It wasn't always possible to prop the little girl on to your knee and tell her a story, which is when she began to write, and paint, and make, constantly working with my hands. As an artist and designer she has had the chance to work on some fantastic projects in India, Dubai and London. She is currently pursuing a Masters in London. Prior to which she freelanced as a travel writer and volunteered at Auroville, a township and international community (with over 50 nationalities) endorsed by UNESCO and the Government of India as an ongoing experiment in human unity. With very bold use of colour and texture, each of Anisa'a paintings are an emotional response and visibly come from a very personal space. With very visible strokes, her paintings often reflect a sense of urgency. They come alive and almost breathe and hum with a sense of rhythm one stroke after another. She doesn't always use a traditional paintbrush to make her art, instead paint is sometimes feverishly spread across the canvas with her fingers, quickly spattered on it or spread and smeared with leaves and thread and other found material. She explains paintings as 'more than pretty pictures on a wall'. Paintings are poetry, paintings are raw and make you feel, and in the act of sharing them with you, paintings become love letters written across time and across continents. She says perched on your wall, these paintings are 'written' by artists as a wave of love, a wave of expression. Just like love, expression and love letters aren't always rainbows and sunshine, neither is art.
