ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I painted this succulent kaleidoscope to challenge myself and to have a long-lasting project to occupy myself during the shutdown due to Covid-19. The image wasn't created or assisted by digital means, but was painted painstakingly by hand. I knew it was going to be difficult, but didn't anticipate that it would take 6 months to complete. It was like trying to solve the world's most difficult jigsaw puzzle.

I was born and brought up in Boston, Massachusetts. I can't remember a time when I didn't have a pencil in my hand and a pad of paper to draw on. I've never imagined being anything but an artist, although there was a time after graduating college that i had to wait for my ideas to come of age. Although I'm a native of the East Coast, after working in Santa Barbara since 1976 and the California light, colors, and aesthetic has been the strongest influence on my work. I categorize my paintings as Contemporary California Realism.
