About The Artwork
The painting depicts a flowering Elder scrub, called Black Lace. Black Lace has dark stems and leaves, and its flower is a pinkish white. It is its stunning contrast of colors, which first interested the artist. Robin Ballard began by painting a dark background. Loosely drawing the flowers' forms, she combined a watery mixture of pink and white acrylic. She then painted in the leaves, using whimsical forms to create a sense of life and movement. The painting is engaging as it combines both a sense of realism and abstraction. “Elder” is stretched on a frame and is easy to hang.
