About The Artwork
Women of the 21st century are directly in the midst of a shifting power structure between men and women, myself included. In my rather unconscious/conscious desire to find a comfortable space within this new paradigm of power Elizabeth demanded space on my canvas. Female energy has traditionally been symbolized as sexual beauty and its resulting power. This piece begs to differ in that definition, not by negating the power of beauty and sexuality, but with the aggregation of the indomitable spirit and strength of feminine energy punctuated by the ability to be strong enough to be vulnerable, vulnerable enough to be strong. With penetrating eyes that follow the viewer, Elizabeth’s beauty and strength are unquestionable. And yet, what makes this piece so powerful is the presence of a commanding softness that radiates compassion and innate goodness as truth and strength. Elizabeth evolved of her own accord while I became the spectator of my own creation.
