Oil on canvas.
120cm x 100cm x 4cm.
Wide edges in dark grey.

My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the skies and sea - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
In this piece, I aimed to capture the tempestuous sea off the coast of Anglesey, North Wales, as Storm Ellen brewed, 2020. The great storm swept across the Irish Sea towards the North Wales coast, causing havoc in its wake. There was a foreboding eeriness and deep heaviness above, as the sea swelled, retaliating against Ellen's furious winds.
I study the skies over the Cheshire hills, close to my home and also the coastal skies over Anglesey, North Wales,
The sky's layers and rolling waves are developed by forming texture through layering and blending the oil paint, building depth, movement and highlights.

My name is Suzanne Williams and I am a self-taught artist, based in Cheshire UK. I work in both oils and acrylics and enjoy both mediums and all their possibilities. I continue to learn daily and find inspiration in the verifying moods of the skies above the stunning Cheshire Plains and North Wales Coast - The filtering sunlight and fleeting moments of interaction with light and movement across a landscape, fascinate me. A fast moving sky, in a North wind, changes constantly and just one fleeting image can inspire a painting. I find painting is nurturing and healing. Art is evocative and emotive. It can push my limits and brings every emotion to the canvas.
