'Emerald Tide' is a vibrant abstract seascape expressing the crashing power of the ocean and the gleam of white water spray caught in direct sunlight. I really focused on emphasising the greens in this piece of work, giving that seaweed coated appearance to the rock and bringing out deep emerald tones in the water itself. Like other paintings in the 'Tide' series there is definitely recognisable ocean here but there is still a powerful mysterious quality of abstraction. Painted on a high quality cotton canvas this piece can be a focal point of any room, the colours complementing any warm interiors containing wood or minimalist colours. Finished with a semi gloss coat of varnish the paint is vibrant and full of depth. Lots of palette knife work and texture has been used to create more of a 3D effect from every angle.

Artist Statement: ''I very much enjoy abstract painting as I had previously found realism too limiting and formulaic. My abstract paintings begin and develop from no preconceived ideas or compositions and thus, what is created does not come from thinking but from somewhere within. I feel creating in this manner gives work a special uniqueness and character and therefore many of my pieces, in their composition, are not recognisable as anything you may see with the naked eye. Essentially I am trying to somehow capture what lies beyond the realms of our everyday world and what is removed from our perception.'
