About The Artwork

Near to my home in Yorkshire can be found many walks throughout the local countryside. A few miles away one of these walks passes through some woodland were a number of different routes can be made. On one particular path, much to my surprise, leads to a charming open glade, which became the inspiration for this painting. When entering the glade for the first time I immediately felt as though I had been transported to a different world, as it felt so different from the surrounding woods. The whole area was quite magical, and for a moment it seemed as though it was placed there just for me. The colours on this glorious spring day were all singing, and the dappled light shinning through the trees made the grasses and wild flowers below seem all the more vibrant. Luckily I had a camera to grab a few snapshots and upon returning home to my studio I felt compelled to recreate it with paint. As with the other paintings from the Grand Tour collection this was painted in an impressionistic style, in which I use a reductive process that distills the brush marks down to the absolute essential. I also used a strong perspective to give a sense of its impressive scale and grandeur, this draws in the eye from the ground at the bottom edge of the picture and leads it up into the center of scene and then up towards the sky. The palette of colours selected for this painting was a pure set of primary and secondary hues to enhance the vibrancy of the alluring scene. The hope with this painting is to draw the viewer in, to captivate and enchant as much as it did me when first encountering this charming place. Additional Information. It was painted using Artists quality oils on canvas and signed on the front. It is unframed, this is left for the buyer to choose to suite their own tastes and décor requirements, although a frame is not absolutely necessary as it is painted on box canvas. Shipped using high quality packaging and materials to gallery standards.

Multidisciplined artist (painter, illustrator, designer, maker, musician, music producer and composer). Born 1968 and based in West Yorkshire, I specialise in creating contemporary landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, portraiture and figurative oil paintings. My paintings are representational and often painted in series, or as part of a themed collection. I work in various opaque mediums and surfaces, though my preferred medium is oil on canvas, as this gives the greatest flexibly and richness of colour and quality of finish. Influences are many and varied, a few include Pissarro, Klimt, Grimshaw, Millais, and Waterhouse, and their processes and techniques have served as a fundamental teaching aid to my own learning. I come from a line of artists, which has had a very strong influence during my formative years. For the most part I am a self taught, after learning the rudiments through formal education, much of my knowledge of painting comes through countless hours practice over the past thirty years and more. My passion for art began at an early age and was greatly encourage throughout my childhood. I went on to study Graphic Design at Batley Art college in 1984. During this time I formed my first band, this eventually led to becoming a professional musician in the following years. Music remains to be a strong part of my creative practice, and to this day I continue to work with long time collaborator and close friend, award winning singer songwriter Shaun T. Hunter (aka Captain of the Lost Waves). Over the past decade we have produced several albums and music videos together. In 2006, after many years as an amateur artist I took up painting full time and began my professional practice. Since then I have taken part in numerous exhibitions, and my work has been sold through both bricks and mortar and online Galleries alike, and continue to gain ever growing number of customers and admirers throughout UK and beyond.
