About The Artwork

My art portrays emotional "places" that are loosely based on the idea of a landscape. These landscapes, however, are not representations of particular geographic locations but imagined, intuitive, soulful declarations of feeling painted in an expressive style. My paintings are never planned in advance. I search for and eventually discover my paintings through intuitive mark-making and layering in paint and mixed media. It involves a balancing act between analysis and instinct, letting go and taking control. I enjoy producing large-scale paintings that invite the viewer to surrender in to their visual experience and become absorbed in the piece. Viewers are uniquely equipped to complete the creative process by combining their own experiences and perspectives into what they see since my paintings are purposefully ambiguous.

I am an artist living and working near Reigate, Surrey. Having changed direction from glass art to painting, I have trained with abstract artists such as David M. Kessler as well as Nicholas Wilton in his groundbreaking Creative Visionary Program. My work represents emotional “places” loosely based upon a landscape. But these landscapes are not depictions of specific geographical areas - they are imaginary, intuitive, soulful expressions of feeling painted in an emotive, direct and energised manner. My intention is to create an invitation for the viewer to search deeper into the painting, to want to visually enter it and experience what lies beyond, for them. My process is intuitive but there is an interplay of letting go and regaining control which is not always easy. Layer upon layer of call and response decisions are made until a potential conclusion to the process is visible. That’s when the final simplification happens, the essence of the painting reveals itself and becomes clear.
