Erased DeKooning Print

"Erased DeKooning is an abstract painting produced with DeKooning's marks in mind but modified with whites/peach pinks to reflect my painting intentions with gesture marks from figure drawing. Abstraction is a relatively new concept or idea in painting developed by a few noted Artists over the last 100 years, from Kandinsky and Malevich through Pollock, DeKooning, and Rothko, to Helen Frankenthaler and Diebenkorn, on to Johns and Rauschenberg, to contemporary practitioners like Richter, Katerina Grosse, and Basquiat. My career as an abstract painter developed slowly from long periods of time devoted to first, photography, then to drawing from the model, and finally arriving at painting. As a landscape architect, of course the local environment influences me, yet I am also obsessed with pure abstraction. Early on, my brain and arm forced me to move forward to actually paint, regardless of influences. It took ten years to learn to work on canvas, with the main questions being what and how to paint? Supplying myself with endless ideas for recycling, I looked at thousands of images from Artist’s monographs, and varied histories of art from cave painting and Monet, to Gagosian Cy Twombley catalogs. From all of this research, William DeKooning immediately took on heroic proportions in my estimation, for his originality, boldness, use of color, facility in drawing, working large, endless productivity, and lack of fear in attacking the unknown. Rauschenberg, that wild young man, on the other hand, used anything he could find to create astonishing breakaway canvases. I noticed that Rauschenberg made an indecipherable work titled Erased DeKooning, 1953, and became fascinated with the idea, Why?
