Ergot II Painting

Ergot or Claviceps purpurea is a cereal fungus which can cause hallucinations through mycotoxicosis. It's thought to be the cause of mass psychosis events such as witch trials, perhaps the mythical Kykeon which was used for rites in Ancient Greece associated with the Elusinian mystery cults, and was also used to first isolate Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). I developed this painting from a large body of drawings made whilst stuck overseas this summer. I felt like the world was shifting all around me, politically and actually physically also - the global culture we rely on whilst working and travelling seemed to break down with only shouting voices to be heard.
